Coho Salmon and Steeelhead
The MBSTP operates a genetic conservation hatchery and rearing facility to supplement natural production which has been reduced due to habitat degradation and drought. A native coho captive brood-stock is being used to re-establish dwindling coho populations. The Steelhead production is done to ensure good returns, especially when river rearing conditions are bad. The MBSTP spawned and reared fish are of the local wild genotype, and every effort is made to maximize genetic diversity.
